Can Charlotte heal two broken hearts at the same time through a strange twist of fate, destiny, music and dance?
Linking the lives of a mother and daughter together you can join them on their journey of discovery through the highs and lows of first love. Will Stephanie finally face the future after the scars from the past, and find out why James left her? Charlotte starts to discover that dancing with Mitchell will be the time of her life. Does anyone ever forget their first love and can you go back?
Where Did Your Heart Go? is a cute, light-hearted romance read, telling a tale of first love, loss, heartbreak, healing, and second chances.
The book switches between mother/daughter pair Stephanie and Charlotte, recounting each girl's experience of first true love. Charlotte relives Stephanie's rose-tinted past through a series of old diary entries from the '80s, whereas Charlotte's love story unfolds in the present day.
I loved the way that '80s pop culture is so heavily referenced in the book as it adds a strong timestamp and sense of belonging to the story. The imagery is so strong that although I wasn't born until the '90s, I feel as though I can picture everything exactly as the author describes.
This is a sweet, poignant read, and for all its romance, I do think that the story tells an important lesson about the strength of first love and how difficult it can be to get over your very first experience of true heartbreak. As you get sucked into the story, it's easy to find yourself reliving your own memories, celebrating the highest highs and the lowest lows alongside the characters.
Whilst the ending wasn't exactly a big surprise, I still enjoyed reading how everything turned out. Where Did Your Heart Go? is incredibly nostalgic and meaningful, yet it is also fun, and at times, downright adorable. This is the perfect read to accompany your summer holiday!
